  OK, let's get this out of the way: it IS remote and there is NOTHING within walking distance except for the golf course (that we didn't care about) and a great black sand beach. No restaurants, no houses, nothing at all. However, we loved this aspect of it - as well as many others. The room (well, the apartment) was very well organized and we had a great view. It was also very quiet - which is great! The personnel was very pleasant and helpful The black sand beach where you can swim with the turtles is within 5 minutes walking. Finally, there was no A/C in the unit, but it was actually surprisingly cool due to large windows and fans, as well as windy location.

  This was a marvelous R & R resort, beautiful pool area, black sand beach within walking distance, and a great golf course. Do not plan on eating out very often. There is a minimum 10 mile drive to "iffy" joints, and 50 miles to Hilo to a good restaurant. There is a marvelous bakery at Punalu’u for great lunches, outdoor seating and overall Hawaiian atmosphere. Our unit was immaculate, with all conveniences available for eating at home, and enjoying the grounds and landscaping which was amazing. We loved this resort and will return as soon as possible.
